How is Body Fat Calculated?
This calculator uses the US Navy method, which estimates body fat percentage using circumference measurements. The formula is based on research conducted by the US Department of Defense.
Body Fat Categories:
Men:
- • Essential Fat: 2-5%
- • Athlete: 6-13%
- • Fitness: 14-17%
- • Average: 18-24%
- • Obese: 25%+
Women:
- • Essential Fat: 10-13%
- • Athlete: 14-20%
- • Fitness: 21-24%
- • Average: 25-31%
- • Obese: 32%+
Measurement Tips:
- • Neck: Measure at the smallest point, below the Adam's apple
- • Waist: Measure at navel level, not at narrowest point
- • Hip (women): Measure at the widest point of the buttocks
- • Use a flexible measuring tape and keep it level
- • Take measurements in the morning for consistency
