Plate Calculator

Calculate the exact plate loading for your barbell lifts

How to Load Plates

Proper plate loading is essential for safe and efficient barbell training. Always load plates from largest to smallest, and ensure both sides of the barbell are loaded evenly.

Standard Plate Colors

  • Blue = 45 lbs (20 kg)
  • Red = 25 lbs (25 kg for kg plates)
  • Yellow = 15 lbs
  • Green = 10 lbs (10 kg)
  • White = 5 lbs (5 kg)
  • Black = 2.5 lbs (2.5 kg)

Safety Tips

  • ✓ Always use collars to secure plates
  • ✓ Load largest plates first, closest to the bar sleeves
  • ✓ Double-check both sides match before lifting
  • ✓ Never assume—always verify the weight
  • ✓ If exact weight can't be reached, load lighter rather than heavier

Note: This calculator assumes standard plate weights. Calibrated plates may vary. Always verify actual plate weights at your gym.
